Zack Thompson By Weight; Ish Monroe by Scorables: First Day Leaders of BAM Pro Tour at Lake Almanor | Bass Angler Magazine
WESTWOOD, Calif. – Reminiscent of the first BAM Tournament Trail Pro Tour event on Lake Martinez that wrapped Day One with Zack Thompson of Alameda, Calif. in the top spot, the second BAM Pro Tour tournament at Lake Almanor closes the Day One scales with Thompson in the lead. Thompson’s position was earned with a five-fish total of 16.47.
“It was a grind all day,” said Thompson. “But I do think that I can make it work again for Day Two.”
Once again, Thompson put his St. Croix Rods and Seviin Reels to the test, landing eight scorable bass. “The Spearpoint Hooks tied to my P-Line really kept the fish buttoned up and that can make all the difference,” he added. “On a day like today, my Costa sunglasses were a key to catching ’em.”
Ish Monroe Leads Keeper Count
In the alternating Five Biggest / Keeper Count leaderboard, Ish Monroe of Oakdale, Calif. sits in second by leading the quantity side with a dozen scorable bass for the first day of Almanor fishing.
“I’m using lures that aren’t even in existence anymore,” revealed Monroe. “And I lost one of them today.”
At this point, he was tight-lipped on what particular bass temptations he was throwing with his Daiwa rods and reels. Monroe’s five biggest weighed 16.09. By weight he was one of only three to lock in at the 16-pound range, leaving him a contender to make the top-five by scales or by numbers for the final field cut to 10 anglers at end of Day Two.
Luke Johns of Folsom, Calif. joins Monroe with 12 scorables; however, Monroe’s five heaviest came in over Johns’ 15.11 in the tiebreaker.
