Each spring, Brett Anderson of BBLADES Professional Propeller Services in Princeton, Wis., wants to pull his hair out, which is he likes to keep it short. Snowmelt has a way of firing up his powerboat-owning clients, many of whom put their boats to bed for the winter with propellers still in need of work.

They come to Anderson, who founded the company and does much of the propeller tuning and repair work himself, in dire need of his services. They don’t want their tuned-up props today, they want them yesterday. So each spring Anderson finds himself, figuratively speaking, underwater with work.
That annual scenario inspired him to launch his “Winter Propeller Tune-Up” program, which begins January 2 through February 28. During the program, BBLADES drops its labor rate from $125 to $100 an hour. Propellers must arrive at the facility between those dates.
“Fine-tuned propellers are the easiest and least expensive way to improve boat performance and winter is the best time to have BBLADES Professional Propellers inspect, repair or improve your favorite wheel,” Anderson wrote in an email this week to his customers. “It’s never too early to start planning for your next boat outing and if you act now you won’t be waiting in line when spring comes. You’ll be ahead of the game and ready to hit the waves before your friends.
