WHM Motorsports To Kick Off Pro Class 1 Campaign In Cocoa Beach Season-Opener
For more than 20 years, the WHM Motorsports team has been a fixture of offshore racing’s Super Cat class. That officially ends May 17-18 in Cocoa Beach, Fla., when team owner/driver Billy Mauff and throttleman Jay Muller begin their Pro Class 1 campaign in Mauff’s Skater Powerboats raceboat.

Fellow Pro Class 1 racer Billy Moore, who throttles alongside owner/driver Mike Falco of the Defalco team, handled repowering and re-rigging the 40-foot catamaran at his shop in Washington, N.C. Moore replaced the boat’s twin Super Cat engines with a pair of Mercury Racing 1100 Comp engines, which are spec power for Pro Class 1.
But there is still setup work to be done, as the team must add weight to the cat to meet minimum class requirements.
“We have to add weight, which will take some time to figure out,” Muller explained. “But the motors already weigh quite a bit more with the transmissions. It should be a fast hot rod.”
Muller said the decision to move WHM Motorsports from the Super Cat class to the Pro Class 1 ranks was the byproduct of “too much drama and politics” in the team’s former category. He added that he and Mauff are looking forward to a fresh start.
“WHM is almost ready to start testing the Pro Class 1 boat for Cocoa Beach,” Muller added. “We’re super excited to join the class. It should be great competition.”
