Welcome To The Time Machine—Donzi American Classic 22 Z Coming Back
An exceptional year for timeless automobiles, 1964 saw the introduction of the Porsche 911, the Aston Martin DB5 Vantage, the Chevrolet Chevelle SS454, the Ferrari 500 Superfast and the Pontiac LeMans GTO according to the popular Supercars.net website. And Craig Barrie, the classic-car-loving leader of Donzi Marine, remembers them all.
Celebrating a classic model from 1964, the collectible Donzi 22 Z will have limited production.
But Barrie also recalls that the Donzi American Classic 22 Z sportboat shares the same debut year with those legendary automobiles, and almost six decades later he and his team at the Washington, N.C.., company are bringing it back.
Production is limited to 10 boats this year. That’s the plan—at least for now.
“It’s a curious phenomenon, but some products develop a devoted following and seem to endure forever,” Barrie said in a press release from Donzi this afternoon. “They continue to thrive if they are fed the qualities that made them beloved in the first place. Whether it’s classic Harley-Davidson, Jeep, Porsche, Corvettes or other nostalgic collectibles, these items remain highly sought after around the world.
Per the Donzi brand, color options for the 22-footer are bold.
While a 430-hp Mercury Marine engine will power the 22-footer, the 8.2-liter mill with Silent Choice exhaust, as well as dual-ram hydraulic steering and a smoked Venturi windshield, will be among the most “modern” elements of the boat. Classic styling cues will include a raised engine hatch with metal vents and the vintage Donzi 1964 logo. The boat’s bucket seats and rear bench will be upholstered in European Houndstooth pattern with a vibrant embroidered red “Z.”
‘The modern dash panel in Twisted Metal, with full instruments to match the wheel, complements the boat’s classic design,” explained Barrie. “The custom logo on the hull side is a nod to the classic Donzi style.”
Color options are Marilyn Monroe Red, Atomic Blonde Yellow and Dark Knight Black.
“We are proud to re-introduce the American Classic Z Donzi 22 Z,” Barrie stated. “It combines the best of the old and the new.
“What is timeless is new again,” he added.
