Waves And Wheels Putting Finishing Touches On 36-Foot Doug Wright

Justin Wagner, who owns Waves and Wheels in Osage Beach, Mo., couldn’t help but share a sneak-peek image of the first Doug Wright Powerboats 36 Carbon Waves and Wheels Edition catamaran being wrapped up by the crew at Graphix 1 Paint, the up-the-road paint facility he owns at Lake of the Ozarks with Maryland Offshore Performance Marine Center founder Andy Imhof. To be honest I expected it since Wagner is most likely twice as excited to get the boat on the water than the owners are being that this is his team’s first bare-hull, new-boat delivery.

The first Doug Wright Powerboats 36 Carbon Waves and Wheels Edition is out of paint and being prepped for final assembly.

Waves and Wheels, which Wagner founded in 2001, has installed interiors and stereo systems in plenty of new boats, but the custom audio, fabrication and interior business has never been a new-boat dealer or sold a completed product in terms of in-house paint, interior and rigging. That opportunity opened up thanks to the paint shop and a rigging team being led by a local setup wiz.

Next up from the company is a 42-foot bare hull from the Melbourne, Fla., builder that Wagner expects to pick up this month and have on display—as a blank canvas for a potential customer—at next month’s Shootout of the Strip presented by Waves and Wheels on Wednesday during the 35th annual Lake of the Ozarks Shootout. The Midwest dealer for Doug Wright has two 39-foot cats on order from the builder as well.

The dealership also stepped up to sponsor the factory-backed 450R Factory Stock-class team for the remainder of the offshore racing season, Wagner said, adding that he was excited to watch and support veteran throttleman Ricky Maldonado team with rookier driver Logan Adan.

But this story isn’t about the raceboat—it’s about the mostly black, blue and gray beauty pictured above.

Powered by twin Mercury Racing 450R engines and in the final stages of assembly, the new 36 Carbon cat is expected to be delivered in a couple of weeks to Southern California performance boaters Jerry and Andrea Olsen on Lake of the Ozarks before they haul it home to the West Coast. The couple does most of its boating on Lake Havasu, the Colorado River-fed lake that borders Arizona and California, and they’ll likely keep it out West.

Until then, keep an eye out for a delivery story on speedonthewater.com in the coming weeks.
