Waves And Wheels Opens Registration For Fun Run And Regatta

The main man behind Waves And Wheels in Osage Beach, Mo., Justin Wagner chuckled when asked how many boats he is expecting for his annual fall event at the Lake of the Ozarks. Set for Friday, September 13, the Waves And Wheels Fun And Doug Wright Regatta is an ever-laidback affair. Though it typically attracts Waves And Wheels customers and their friends, everyone is welcome.

“You never know with our events,” he said. “It could be five boats. It could be 25. It’s very casual.

Waves And Wheels customers typically fill the participant-rosters, but owners of boats of makes and models are welcome at the Doug Wright catamaran dealership’s upcoming event. Photo by Jeff Helmkamp copyright Helmkamp Photos.

“For Doug Wright catamarans coming, I know we will have Brian Blount’s 39 and Waves And Wheels 39 in the run,” he added. “We will also have the 42 we did for Dave Burgess on display.”

Wagner means what he says when he describes the event as “casual.” Registration, which opened yesterday and is required, demands nothing more than would-be participants emailing their names and the make and model of their boats to Waves And Wheels. Boat of all kinds, from pontoons to catamarans, are welcome.

There is no cost to sign up, though “donations to local animal shelters” will be accepted.

The festivities kick off Saturday at 9:30 a.m. with a “breakfast pizza” meet-and-greet at Lazy Gators. At 11:30 a.m., participants will head to the Boardwalk at Waves And Wheels to hop in their boats and run to Captain Ron’s Bar and Grill, the home of the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout, for lunch. Departure is slated for 11:45 a.m. At 1:45 p.m., the fleet will depart Captain Ron’s and head for a pool party at Backwater Jacks.
