Water Patrol Approves Changes To Lake Of The Ozarks Shootout No-Wake Restrictions
Earlier today, organizers of the popular Lake of the Ozarks Shootout in Central Missouri announced approved changes to the event’s largely unpopular no-wake restrictions, which were implemented several years ago. The 10-plus mile extended idle-speed zone east of the three-quarter-mile course at mile marker 34 is not going away altogether, rather the afternoon window is being shortened to allow boaters to get back and forth quicker earlier in the day.
Organizers of the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout announced the event’s extended idle zone is being shortened this year.
According to the Shootout’s executive director, Leah Martin, the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Water Patrol Division has agreed to change the idle-speed zone from the 31.5 mile marker to the 21 mile marker back to 3 p.m., so instead of it extending from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., it’s now four hours long from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The map below displays the no-wake areas.
“Safety is our top priority for the Shootout,” Martin said. “We feel that reducing the time on the extended no-wake protects property and provides a safe trip home from the races. We will have an increased presence of patrol boats reminding boaters of the idle, from 3 to 7 p.m., along the extended no-wake. If you want to come later or leave early, you won’t have to idle the entire way.”
Martin added that there are some cool things in store to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Shootout, which is one of the lake’s largest charitable events and presented by Performance Boat Center in Osage Beach. Last year, the event raised a whopping $625,000 thanks to all of its sponsors, participants, volunteers and other happenings outside of the two days of competition hosted at Captain Ron’s Bar and Grill in Sunrise Beach.
This year’s top-speed contest, which takes place August 26-27, starts at 8:30 a.m. and is expected to conclude by 4 p.m. on both days. Be sure to check out the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout calendar for a full list of events.
