WATCH: How to Use Crocs to Catch Fish – On The Water
Fishermen, in general, have always been a creative, inventive, problem-solving bunch. We tend to think outside the box, whether it’s finding a way to troll 12 live eels without tangling lines, or using largemouth bass lures to catch keeper fluke from shore. Since the development of the internet, and more recently, social media, angler ingenuity is at an all-time high. So it should come as no surprise that a shore fisherman discovered a second use for his beach shoes. In a video shared to Instagram, David Ho of Symplex Fishing shows the world how he uses Crocs to catch fish.
Mole crabs, sand fleas—whatever you call them, these little bugs burrow into wet sand along the shore break and make a fantastic live bait for striped bass, summer flounder (fluke), northern kingfish and more. In fact, they’re such a popular bait that tackle shops from Cape Cod to Virginia and beyond sell rakes specifically designed to sift sandy sediment and scoop mole crabs by the dozen. David Ho simply saved himself $40 and repurposed his shoes for the same utility as a sand flea rake.
