Volunteer as a Lighthouse Keeper on Lake Superior for the Summer

Live on Lake Superior for the summer and volunteer at a historic lighthouse! Au Sable historic light station on Michigan’s Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is looking for volunteers to give tours over the summer.

Volunteers will live in a Pictured Rocks campsite or park furnished housing and help with tours Wednesday through Sunday, 10am – 5pm, June through September, reports MLive.com. The 150-year-old lighthouse was built in 1873-1874, and is still in operation. Its 86-foot high tower is known as the “Beacon of the Shipwreck Coast,” and overlooks a shoreline dotted with remains of previous shipwrecks.

Volunteers are invited to help keep the history of the light station alive and interpret it for future generations. Visit volunteer.gov and search for Pictured Rocks to learn more about the opportunity.
