VisionF E-Cat 80

We’re seeing more and more electric and hybrid long-range catamarans. The latest kilowatt yacht comes from VisionF. Designed by Marco Casali and naval architect Dr. Amedeo Magali, the Turkish builder’s E-Cat 80 is constructed of carbon fiber. Her 54 solar panels will pump 21.6kW of energy into her batteries and a drive system with dual Danfoss electric motors with 340 combined kW (455-hp). She’ll offer a 16 knot top speed, and what the builder is claiming will be essentially unlimited cruising range given optimal solar conditions. If the sun’s less than optimal, you can turn to a pair of twin 150kW diesel generators for backup power. Layouts are customizable and with a 35 foot beam, you’ll have plenty of room for upwards of 12 guests and four crew. What do you think?
