Viking 74 Set to Debut

Viking will introduce its new (and second-generation) 74 at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show this fall. Although Viking offered a (moderately) slower 74 between 2004 and 2008, the 74C comes in on the heels of the yard’s recently retired 72, which topped out at a staggering 45 knots and saw a run of 75 hulls.

“The 72 was the fastest boat in our 60-plus-year history, and the 74 will certainly become the next speed king of the Viking fleet,” says Viking Design Manager David Wilson. “Our goal is to gain efficiency through studying a number of performance elements, including longitudinal center of gravity, hull resistance, trim angle and modifications to the running surface.”

We’ll be aboard as soon as the team gets our chance in Fort Lauderdale later this month.
