TS Motorsports Joining The 52-Boat Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix Fray
With the Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix coming this Sunday, 52 teams have registered for the Southwest Florida event. Among the most recent entries is the 450R Factory Stock-class team of Taylor Scism and her MTI-founding father, Randy, in the TS Motorsports MTI 390X catamaran.

Scism and John Tomlinson, the team’s regular throttleman, had initially planned to forego the Powerboat P1/P1 Offshore produced contest, which is the third of eight races in the American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series, based on schedule conflicts. The change of plans means the KLOVAR Motorsports team’s Randy Keys and Bill Allen will have competition this weekend.
Allen, who throttles the former TS Motorsports 390X raceboat, described Scism team’s registration for the Sarasota race as “great news.”
“Now we just need 12 more boats,” he quipped.
Scism said the team finalized its “very last-minute” decision last night at 8:45 p.m. “We didn’t get to race that course last year so we decided to give it a try,” she said.
Asked if the team was now scrambling to prepare for the 37th annual Sarasota event, Scism chuckled. “Oh yes we are,” she said.
In the first two APBA series races so far this year, each team has notched a victory. TS Motorsports took the win at the season-opener in Cocoa Beach, Fla., and KLOVAR Motorsports prevailed at the Offshore Powerboat Association-produced Lake Race on the Lake of the Ozarks in Central Missouri.
