The Four Horsemen Poker Run Rides Off Into The Sunset

The Four Horsemen Poker Run Rides Off Into The Sunset

For any annual nonprofit go-fast boating event, 15 years is a fine milestone to reach—even if it’s the last one. And that is exactly what the Four Horseman Poker Run on Lake Winnebago in Oshkosh, Wis., did yesterday with what will be the final event for the Sweetwater Performance and Marine production team.

Longtime Four Horsemen participants David Weschler and Nicole Weschler ran their 52-foot Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats V-bottom in the event. Photos by Pete Boden copyright Shoot 2 Thrill Pix.

“I am going to miss it,” said Gary Swanson, the general manager of the Oshkosh headquartered dealership and service center. “Seeing everyone yesterday at the final get-together was great.

“But with everything we have going at Sweetwater it just became too much for us,” he added.

The final Four Horsemen event attracted a solid fleet.

The event attracted almost 60 boats, which met the expectations of the organizers based on the past few years. Yesterday morning’s rain in the area delayed the start for an hour.

Longtime Four Horseman fans and Outerlimits SV 52 owners David and Nicole Weschler of Erie, Pa., were among the participants.

“It started out rainy and then turned out perfect,” he said. “The water was great and the people were even better. We haven’t used our boat much since we had our daughter, Malia, who is three years old now. But we knew we had to be here for the final-final and we are so glad we made it happen. Malia will be boating with Nic and I soon, so stay tuned.”

Added Swanson, “Once the rain faded out, it was beautiful. It worked out perfectly.”

Another longtime Four Horsemen fan who lives in Wisconsin and has owned a variety of high-performance boats, Don Verkuylen ran his SC 37 Outerlimits catamaran.

The final Four Horseman happening was bittersweet for Swanson, who been with Sweetwater Performance and Marine for 19 years. It was the first poker-run experience for 11-year-old daughter, Lucy, and 14-year-old son, Graden.

“My mother Kris also came with us first poker run,” said Swanson. “It was her first one, too.”

Swanson mother, Kris, son Graden, wife Faith and daughter Lucy joined him for the Four Horsemen Poker Run swansong.
