Thankful Timmons Family Takes Delivery Of New 500R-Powered DCB M37R Widebody – Speed on the Water
Greg Timmons, a well-known Southern California boater who had purchased two new outboard-powered catamarans from DCB Performance Marine in the past, knew what he was in for when he ordered his third cat from the now Phoenix-based manufacturer. He and his wife, Samantha, knew how textbook the boat would be built, how stylish and luxurious the interior would be crafted and how meticulously detailed everything would be inside and outside of their first new M37R Widebody catamaran from DCB. And they were right.

What they didn’t know for certain, because they had never owned one of DCB’s true-tunnel 37-foot cats or ever had a pair of the new Mercury Racing 500R engines on the back of one of their boats, was how well the 37-foot cat would perform on their home waterway—Lake Havasu—and beyond.
For the record, Greg Timmons, who took delivery of the boat the day before Thanksgiving and then spent the day after Thanksgiving running the boat with friends and family, called it an absolute pleasure to drive.
“It’s just awesome; it feels like it’s on rails,” Timmons said on Friday evening. “If I had to compare it to my M33R, I’d say it feels more stable, a little more planted. Getting on plane is so smooth, too. There is no bowrise at all, it’s really nice.
“In terms of top speed, the difference isn’t much more than what we were running in the M33R, but it takes longer—and we’d have to cover more distance—to get there in the M33R,” he added. “The M37R stays nice and flat and the visibility is excellent. It’s almost a foot wider than the M33R, too, so that helps in rougher water.”
Also for the record, the family’s new boat is M37R No. 21 and the fourth one to be equipped with the 500-hp engines. Previously the Timmons owned a 2018 M28R with twin Mercury Racing 400R engines and a 2020 M33R Widebody with a pair of Mercury Racing 450R engines.
“We decided to try and keep the boat a little cooler this time by going with a white gelcoat base rather a dark blue base like our first two DCBs,” Timmons said. “The team at DCB nailed the design and gelcoat, and the interior is out of this world. We went with 100-percent Alcantara on the last two boats, but decided to try the 50-percent Alcantara/50-percent CoolTouch interior package with CNC stitching, utilizing DCB’s new state-of-the-art CNC machine.”

Timmons said DCB’s John Teague handled the delivery smoothly and that the boat sits on a triple-axle MYCO Trailers painted trailer with Adrenaline Trailers custom upgrades, including 18-inch FUEL wheels, a drive guard, an upgraded double handle front courtesy ladder and an LED loading package, LED undercarriage lighting and LED running light package.
“Between the Timmons family and the exceptionally built M37R, the delivery went well and was very enjoyable,” said Teague, who walked the owner through the various features throughout the boat before launching it at https://www.islanderlakehavasu.com Islander Resort in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., running it down the lake for shakedown and demonstration purposes, and handing over the controls to Timmons. “Their boat is incredible. It came out very nice. It looks great and it runs like a dream.
“The M37R just flat-out works well—it is phenomenal really,” he added. “It’s very well-mannered and it is super solid. The new 500Rs are a great fit—the torque increase is significant.”
Other stand-out features of Timmons’ 37-footer, which has two 85-gallon fuel tanks with both fuel fills on the port side, include a custom Isotta Fanete steering wheel, one 22-inch Garmin GPS monitor, two 12-inch SIMRAD touchscreens, DCB’s Stage III stereo system, a four-color plush carpet kit, a three-color SeaDek entry kit and locker liner, as well as a billet foot shower up front and another with a retractable nozzle on the rear swim step.
John Teague, left, delivered the latest DCB M37R Widebody to Greg Timmons last week in Lake Havasu City, Ariz.
On the propulsion side, Mercury Racing five-blade CNC propellers are connected to the 500-hp engines, which are mounted on billet CNC-machined offshore brackets from Five Star Tool Company. DCB installed its custom carbon-fiber engine cowling scoops on the engines, too.
On top of participating in local events, such as the Desert Storm Poker Run in Lake Havasu City, Timmons said he wants to travel and try some new events next year in the 37-footer, including a trip to Missouri for the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout at the end of August. He plans to attend the DCB Owners Regatta in the fall and hopes to take part in the Lake Powell Challenge in Northern Arizona in September.
And, if all works out, Timmons may take the boat to Florida and do some runs on the East Coast—like some of his friends recently did.
