Texoma Throw Down Continues To Soar With Boost From New Location

Casey Moore, the powerboat enthusiast and U.S. veteran behind the Texoma Powerboat Association that organizes the Texoma Throw Down in Kingston, Okla., had a great feeling that the new host location—Catfish Bay Marina at Pointe Vista—would take this year’s seventh annual event to new heights. And he was right.

“The new venue, in my opinion, was way better; to me it made the whole run seem more organized,” said Texas performance boater Jason Youell, who took delivery of he and his wife Tiffany’s new MTI 390X catamaran powered by twin Mercury Racing 500R engines just in time for the event. “We love the Texoma Throw Down so much that we kind of pushed MTI to get it done in time for this event. We’ve been a sponsor for the last six years and we always have so much fun. For us, because we brought our RV, stayed in the park and had our scooters to get to the casino, the new venue was much nicer than previous years. We could see the docks from our RV—it was great.

“There is always room for improvement, especially being the first year at a new location, but I had zero complaints,” he continued, adding a thank you to MTI for delivering an incredible boat, which he described as a major step up from his 2018 MTI 340X with a pair of the obsolete 400R outboard engines. “The best part is that there is a lot of potential for the event to get bigger and better than it is. Casey and his crew have done such a great job continuing to make it better.”

The Youells, who own Woody’s Smokehouse in Centerville, Texas, are planning to take their new 39-footer to Missouri next week to enjoy the festivities around the 36th annual Lake of the Ozarks Shootout. Jason Youell said the MTI received a lot of attention at the docks and around Lake Texoma throughout the event. And because it was so new and they wanted to keep it in the water to maximize their time with it, he said they didn’t show it off at the street party but plan to display it next year.

Moore said he and his team were in awe with the positive responses they received following last weekend’s event, which had 118 registered boats.

“Wow—what a weekend!” exclaimed a post on the Texoma Powerboat Association Facebook page. “We want to thank every single person who came out to Texoma Throw Down 2024. This year was amazing! We want to give a huge shoutout out and thank you to our hosting sponsors, Freeman Marine Sales, West Bay Casino and Resort, and Catfish Bay Marina. We also want to give a huge thank you to XPEL for its sponsorshop and to DentSource LLC for sponsoring the shuttle bus that delivered everyone around the lake safely to their destinations. We’re looking forward to working out the kinks from moving locations and expecting a bigger and better event in the years to come.”

Moore said the event raised $10,000 for Mission 22—the non-profit organization that provides treatment programs to veterans with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder that it has supported since 2018—and awarded $17,000 to various poker run winners, one of whom donated $4,000 back to bring the grand total to $14,000.

Others who provided high praise about the Texoma Throw Down were the brothers behind Poly Lift Boat Lifts in Missouri—Mark and Mike Maasen—each of whom brought their own boat and had nothing but good things to say about the event.

“Poly Lift Boat Lifts had a fantastic experience and will be returning as sponsors,” said Mark Maasen, who had a full crew with him in his 38-foot Renegade Powerboats center console powered by triple Mercury Racing 400R engines.

“We had a great time and look forward to returning next year,” said Mike Maasen, who ran his Cigarette Racing Team 42X sportboat powered by triple Mercury Racing 565 engines.

The Friday “Tacos In Paradise” lunch run and raft-up at North Island is always a highlight of the event.

Oklahoma performance boater and event sponsor Taylor Doctorman continued the admiration for the event on the 140-square-mile reservoir that borders Texas and Oklahoma.

“Great times with great people—we’ll be back as always next year,” said Doctorman, who owns Doc’s Enterprises, a first-class detailing and commercial and residential power washing service in Mustang, Okla.

Kirk Peters, who also lives in Mustang, expressed his appreciation for the Texoma Throw Down.

“I’ve been to a lot of boat events and this is by far one of my favorites,” said Peters, who ran his new-to-him Eliminator Boats 33 Daytona catamaran in the event. “Casey and the Texoma Powerboat Association go above and beyond to make sure it is a great event for everyone; they also work their butts off to raise money for the cause at hand. This was my first year attending in a catamaran—I came out of a 42-foot Fountain Powerboats V-bottom so I’m still getting familiar with my cat—but we had a great time. It’s cool to see so many bad-ass boats in one spot.”

Peters thanked the organizers as well as the crew at Freeman Marine Sales, which hosted the Thursday evening street party.

The owner of the sales and brokerage business in Kingston, Casey Freeman said this year’s event was the best one he’s attended.

“The organizers have a good program going; they do a good job mixing things up,” Freeman said. “They have multiple days and nights with different things going on each day, and we know the new location is only going to get better once the new Hard Rock Hotel opens in a few years. We love being a part of the event and will continue to do so for as long as it’s happening.”
