Team Defalco Returning To Class 1 With Victory Raceboat
In a busy Class 1 offshore powerboat racing pre-season that has seen two big moves in the cockpit with Alex Pratt going to df Young/Good Boy Vodka and Brit Lilly heading to XINSURANCE, the biggest news of all may well belong to the Defalco team. Owner/driver Mike Falco and throttleman Billy Moore will pilot a 45-foot Victory catamaran in the Union Internationale Motonautique Class 1 World Championship Series, which begins May 18-19 in Cocoa Beach, Fla.
New to the Defalco team, its 45-foot Victory catamaran will boast bold new graphics.
“Mike and Billy are raring to go and will start testing in North Carolina early next month,” said Christina Falco, who is married to Falco and manages the team, in a Powerboat P1 press release issued this morning.
The twin Mercury Racing 1100 Comp engines, BPM drives and SCS quick-change gear-sets.
“I’ve actually run this Victory cat before,” said Moore via text message this morning. “It has always been a great boat—it handles very well and runs it’s fast. I’ve run some other Victory cats before, but I have a particular liking for this one.”
“Mike is giving us the resources to be a serious championship contender,” he continued. “We will be testing intensively before the season opener and across the whole year.”
Though the Defalco team, which ran a 48-foot Outerlimits catamaran for the past two seasons, will be based in Moore’s home-base of Washington, N.C., its namesakes live and a run a successful construction company in New York City. The name of the team itself is a hybrid of Falco and Delligatti, which is Christina Falco’s maiden name.
“Simple, isn’t it?” said Falco.
