Sweers And Marquardt To Debut Super Stock Savage Team Raceboat In Cocoa Beach
Heading into their second full year in the Super Stock ranks, South Florida-based marine industry/offshore racing veteran Randy Sweers and his longtime friend, Bryan Marquardt of Texas, have a new title sponsor for their 32-foot Doug Wright Powerboats catamaran. Marquardt’s friend and fellow Texan Chad Havens, who owns a well-known 40-foot Skater Powerboats catamaran dubbed Savage, is backing the team for the 2023 season.
The 32-foot Super Stock-class Team Savage raceboat will be wrapped in its new graphics in the next few weeks.
“Chad Havens has stepped up to get us back on the racecourse and we couldn’t be more grateful,” Sweers said. “He was going to name the boat after one of the several companies he owns, but at the end of the day he just decided on Team Savage to match his 40 Skater.
“The new S-33 Team Savage, which ran last year under PlayTradez livery, will be a force to be reckoned with this season,” he continued. “Bryan now has a full season under his belt behind the wheel and he’s been honing his skills inside the cockpit. I’ve been working on the setup and balance of the boat, as well as ‘learning the class’ after so many years as a Super Cat throttleman.”
In addition to Mr. Savage as its title sponsor, the team has additional backing from Statement Marine of Clearwater, Fla., Texas-based Lumberton Offroad, Mid-County Land and Orange County Building Supplies, and RIISE Construction in Toronto, Canada.

The team had hoped to have the 32-footer ready in time for this weekend’s season-opener—the Race World Offshore-produced 7 Mile Offshore Grand Prix in Marathon, Fla.—but repairs following an incident last year during RWO’s Key West World Championships proved extensive. Rather than rush to meet the earliest season-opener in recent history, Sweers and Marquardt opted to take the time to have the work done properly.
Dressed in its new graphics, the cat will be ready to debut May 18-21 at Thunder On Cocoa Beach, the second of five races in the American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series being co-produced by Powerboat P1 and Race World Offshore.
“Ricky and Julian Maldonado at Manatee Marine Unlimited in Palmetto (Fla.) did a great job with it,” Sweers said. “After some testing and practice, we’ll ready to go for Cocoa Beach. We can’t wait to climb back into the cockpit.”
A tangle with the Jackhammer team last year in Key West, Fla., left the former PlayTradez raceboat in need of significant repairs.
