Super Cat Teams Release Own 2024 National Competition Schedule

As they have in recent years, the team owners in offshore powerboat racing’s thriving Super Cat class have voted on their own national championship schedule for the 2024 season. The owners have selected the following seven events from Offshore Powerboat Association, Powerboat P1/P1 Offshore and Race World Offshore race rosters:

May 16-19—Thunder On Cocoa Beach, Cocoa Beach, Fla. (P1)
May 31-June 2—LOTO Powerfest, Lake of the Ozarks, Mo.
June 7-9—Ocean City Grand Prix, Ocean City, Md. (RWO)
June 21-23—Atlantic City Grand Prix, Atlantic City, N.J. (OPA)*
August 2-4—Great Lakes Grand Prix, Michigan City, Ind. (OPA)*
August  9-11—Midwest Challenge, Sheboygan, Wis. (P1)
September 27-29—XINSURANCE Clearwater Nationals, Clearwater, Fla. (RWO)

Also as in years past, the 2024 Super Cat owners internal schedule incorporates a “drop-race” format, meaning only six events will count toward the owner series results. Teams can either run all seven races and drop their worst result, or simply run six races.

“I am happy to do some new venues—two more races on the north side of the country is a big change and I dig it,” said Vinnie Diorio, the owner of the SV Offshore Racing/Rollin Super Cat team. “For some of us, the hardest part is the pits so we are hoping that the pit and crane areas are accommodating.”

The Dirty Money team is returning for its second Super Cat-class season.

Both Powerboat P1 and Race World Offshore are member-organizations of the American Power Boat Association. At present, the Offshore Powerboat Association is not under the APBA sanctioning umbrella. That means the OPA events are not presently part of the APBA Offshore National Championship Series. The Super Cat owners schedule includes an asterisk behind each OPA event that denotes “dependent upon APBA approval.”

“We are supportive of APBA-backed event,” said Beau Renfroe, the owner of the Dirty Money team. “If OPA cannot get in line with APBA requirements we will revisit the schedule.”

The back-to-back defending national and world championship, Tyler Miller and Myrick Coil of the M CON/Monster Energy Super Cat team will be looking for a threat-peat this season.

Regardless, the Super Cat owners voted to include two OPA events on their roster and are eager to start the 2024 season.

“We are all fired up,” said Casey Boaz of the CR Racing team, which will field a new Skater 388 catamaran this year.  “The lineup looks great and new venues are always exciting. Win or lose, preferably win, we will still have fun.”

Tyler Miller, the owner/throttleman of the back-to-back world and national champion M CON/Monster Energy Super Cat team, is equally delighted with the schedule and ready to ready to go for a three-peat.

“The schedule provides a variety of flat- and fast-water courses, as well as multiple ‘fan-favorite’ rough-water races,” he said. “It’s going to be a must see season with Supercat teams on top of their games battling for the national championship. We are excited for the 2024 race schedule and looking forward to a great year of competitive racing.”

Said Boaz, “Win or lose, preferably win, we will still have fun.”
