Super Cat Team Spotlight: SV Offshore Racing’s Diorio Calls ‘Podium’ For Sarasota
Never afraid to speak his mind, from critiquing his own performance on the racecourse to making predictions, Super Cat-class SV Offshore Racing team owner/throttleman Vinnie Diorio has a simple goal for this weekend’s Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix produced by Powerboat P1.
“We will be on the box,” said Diorio, who will fly from his home in Wisconsin this Thursday to the Southwest Florida venue.

For the uninitiated, “the box” means the podium, which in turn translates to first, second or third place. To that end, Diorio is making sure that Matt Jamniczky, his rookie driver out of Indiana, has all the tools he needs to succeed in the team’s 39-foot catamaran powered by Sterling Performance Engines.
“We were having issues with the steering locking up during LOTO Powerfest, so our crew chief Greg Hillmer redid all the power-steering pumps and we went with a different system,” said Diorio.
Last Thursday at the Lake of the Ozarks in Central Missouri, Jamniczky ran the boat with Super Cat-class M CON/Monster Energy drink driver Myrick Coil, who also throttles the Performance Boat Center catamaran in the Super Stock class. (Coil is the Osage Beach, Mo., dealership’s service manager.)
“The steering is a lot better,” said Jamniczky. “Of course, you never know till you’re racing how much better.
“Every time I get in the boat, I learn more,” he added. “I just want to continue to improve.”
Coil, who has worked with Jamniczky before in the cat, said the rookie driver’s confidence is growing and that new steering system already has made a difference.
“He’s getting more confident,” said Coil. “The best part is that Matt is such a great guy. I wish them the best of luck.”
Diorio believes the Sarasota course is ideal for Jamniczky in that it is “never really crazy rough, just Sarasota sloppy.”
“Matt loves it—he’s hooked—and he’s a super-nice guy,” he said, then laughed. “He said to me, ‘Dude, it’s really quiet in the boat when you’re no in there yelling at me.”
Added Coil with a chuckle of his own, “He did tell me that I yell at him a whole lot less than Vinnie does.”
