Super Cat Fest West Sets $100,000 Auction Goal To Support Local Children’s Charities
With a 2007 Arlen Ness-built custom motorcycle as the centerpiece of the closing night auction for the April 26-29 Super Cat Fest West event in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. co-organizer Dave Johnson has set a loft goal for the Saturday evening affair. The River Dave’s Place online community founder wants to raise no less than $100,000 for local charities primarily serving children, while setting a fundraising record for go-fast boating events in the area.

Lake Havasu City-headquartered Horizon Motorsports will host Super Cat Fest West finale. The auction is slated to begin promptly at 8:30 p.m.
“Every penny of the money raised will stay in Lake Havasu to support local charities,” said Johnson. “I want the auction to raise more than $100,000 and I think with the items we have we’ll have no trouble reaching that goal.”
Officially one of the fastest men on the water thanks to his Desert Storm Poker Run Shootout, Lake of the Ozarks Shootout and Texas Outlaw Challenge accomplishments, Lake Havasu City’s Gary Smith donated the custom-built motorcycle to the auction. (The bike was unveiled at an event in town last weekend.) The exotic, belt-driven two-wheel machine is powered by a 124-cubic-inch engine.
Smith has owned the motorcycle for two years, during which he has put less than five miles on it. The custom-painted bike currently has 287 total operating hours—and brand-new tires.
“It’s quite the looker,” said Smith. “Once I learned that all the money will be staying Lake Havasu City I was all in to donate it.”
This one-of-a-kind Arlen Ness motorcycle will be the centerpiece of the Super Cat Fest West auction.
Smith said he isn’t sure what the creation from Hess, who died in 2019, is worth. For tax purposes, he has valued the donation at $15,000.
“But I have seen used ones go for three to four times that amount,” he said, then chuckled. “I think the bidding on this one will get stupid.”
And that’s just fine with Johnson. Other major auction items include a DCB Performance Boats-built table created from the deck of an M33R catamaran, wall-art from Jake Fraleigh at Eliminator Boats including a piece fashioned from the deck of a 19-foot Daytona cat and a single-axle Weekend Warrior trailer complete with a stereo system, a built-in retractable flat-screen television and coolers and more.
“I think our headliner items alone will put us over $100,000,” said Johnson.
