Sunday Shootout Action: Factory Billet And The Parveys Returning, Monster Energy/M CON Going Kilo – Speed on the Water
The kind of daylong, head-to-head battle between Jim Schultz and Mike Faucher in their canopied 51-foot Factory Billet Outerlimits V-bottom and Dennis and Jason Parvey in their open cockpit 43-foot Black Thunder Lake of the Ozarks Shootout fans have come to expect didn’t materialize today. The Parveys ran an impressive 166 mph on the three-quarter-mile course and returned for a second squirrely run that yielded a pokey—at least by their standards—149-mph result. The victims of a minor but costly, at least in terms of performance, mechanical issue, the Factory Billet cockpit duo made a 162-mph run and were done for the day.

The good news? Both teams are coming back tomorrow to compete.
“She’s definitely making power,” said Jason Parvey, who watches the gauges and hangs on for dear life while his father, Dennis, throttles. “We had 21 seconds of full throttle on the first run.”
Parvey said he’s not sure if they can improve on today’s result, but that he and his father are looking forward to giving it a try.
“The big factor is the wind and getting it lined up through the start box,” he said.
Schultz and Faucher are hoping to lay down a 170-mph run tomorrow.
As for Factory’s Billet’s Schultz and Faucher, they spent today chasing down and resolving the issue and are eager to get back on the course in what could be their Lake of the Ozarks Shootout swan song.
If there is “bad” news for Shootout fans, it’s that American Ethanol, a 51-foot Mystic Powerboats catamaran is not coming back for tomorrow’s action, which is slated to begin at 9:15 a.m. and run through 1:30 p.m. But when you surprise yourself with a 214-mph pass on your first attempt, as American Ethanol’s John Cosker and Tony Battiato did today, there’s no shame in putting the boat back in the barn.
As previously reported, an official kilometer run event sanctioned by the American Power Boat Association and Union International Motonautique will following tomorrow’s Shootout action. Among the 12 teams set to compete is the new-for-2023 Class 1 Monster Energy/M CON Skater 438 catamaran, which claimed its first podium finishes earlier this month at the Mercury Racing Midwest Challenge in Sheboygan, Wis.
Fresh from podium finishes the month, the Monster Energy/M CON raceboat will be in the kilo mix tomorrow.
Said Monster Energy/M CON owner/throttleman Tyler Miler, who ran his Super Cat-class Skater 388 catamaran with driver Myrick Coil in the Shootout today, “It’ll be a new world record per APBA as no one with Class 1 credentials has attempted it yet.”
