St. Pete Grand Prix Canceled

Set to be the finale for both the American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series and Union Internationale Motonautique Class 1 World Championship since the season began, the Monster Enegry St. Petersburg Grand Prix in Southwest Florida has been canceled. Powerboat P1, the producer of the October 18-20, has announced that the event has been scrubbed thanks to the damage caused by Hurricane Milton in the area.

The organization made it official in a statement posted yesterday  on its website at 11:30 p.m. in the United Kingdom.

“With the arrival of Hurricane Milton on the Gulf Coast of Florida, Powerboat P1 is sad to announce that the St Petersburg Powerboat P1 Offshore Grand Prix has been canceled,” the post read. “This decision has been made in the best interests and safety of everyone involved with the event. Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by the hurricane and we will be seeking to aid in the recovery efforts.”

In late September,Hurricane Helene forced the cancelation of the Race World Offshore Clearwater Nationals, which was set to be the second to last event for both series. Hurricane Helene also put St. Petersburg event in jeopardy. Just last week, the city eventually gave Powerboat P1 the go-ahead to produce the race. Hurricane Milton erased the possibility.

Provisional Champions—Going By The Standings
Both APBA and UIM teams last competed in early August at the Midwest Challenge in Sheboygan, Wis. That means the post-Sheboygan points accumulation determines the champions in each series.

That makes the cockpit duo of owner/throttleman Tyler Miller and driver Myrick Coil of the Monster Energy/M CON team the Class 1 World Champions ahead of the Defalco and df Young/Good Boy Vodka teams. Miller and Coil also will take home the APBA Super Cat National Championship for their efforts in the M CON/Monster Energy team raceboat, followed by the Dirty Money and WHM Motorsports teams.

The M CON Racing group earned earned titles in the Class 1 (above) and Super Cat ranks.

Having dominated throughout the season, the Montlick Injury Attorneys team of season-long driver Logan Aiden and now-throttleman Giovanni Carpitella earned the 450R Factory Stock National Championship, followed by the Hanks Saloon Racing and GC Racing teams.

In the Mod V class, the XINSURANCE/Statement Marine team of driver Nick Buis and throttleman J.J. Turk edged out the Safe Cash/XINSURANCE team by just three points, with the Boatfloater.com team rounding out the national championship podium.

The Mod V-class points-chase was tight coming into the final races of the APBA series, both of which were canceled.

As previously reported, the Super Stock Class APBA National Championship points-chase ended with the Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix, as the final race of the series for that class in Clearwater was canceled.
