In support of National Safe Boating Week, St. Clair Shores Coast Guard is hosting an open house on May 20 from 10am – 1pm, offering guests an opportunity to see all of the tools members of the Coast Guard use every day at this active military base, as well as a close up look at duties performed on the water and in the air.

“This is a great opportunity to see what the men and women of the Coast Guard are doing,” said Howard Hillman, a public affairs officer with the Coast Guard Auxiliary, reports the Macomb Daily. “This border is one of the busiest in the nation,” he added.

Demonstrations will also include lessons on safe boating, and volunteers with the Coast Guard Auxiliary will be on site to share safe boating tips and perform free vessel safety checks.

“Our goal is to help make boating as safe as  possible for you, your family and your friends, through information and education,” added Hillman, reports the Macomb Daily. “The young people that staff all of the Coast Guard stations are upbeat and engaging but this personnel in particular are neat to see. It’s fun to be around them.”
