Speed On The Water Key West Bash Returning For 10th Year – Speed on the Water

Started as a tiny gathering in a hamburger joint 10 years ago to thank our advertisers and key supporters, the Speed On The Water Key West Bash benefitting Samuel’s House is now among the best-attended happenings during the early November Race World Offshore World Championships and concurrent Florida Powerboat Club trek to the city at the end of the South Florida road. Last year’s event attracted an estimated 6,000 revelers and raised more than $100,000 for the nonprofit shelter for women, children and intact families, as well as the Rebuild Fort Myers Beach effort.

This year’s celebration is set for Thursday, November 9, and will run from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

This year, the traditional live auction is moving to an outdoor stage on Greene Street, which will be closed for the duration of the party. That means there will be more space inside the Sandbar Sports Grill host venue. While his participation isn’t final, Nolan Ferris is planning to lead the auction for 10 collectible items including a commemorative 10th annual Speed On The Water Key West Bash shot-ski created by Stephen Miles of Stephen Miles Design.

Of course, a new go-fast boat or two, perhaps even the first of a new breed, will be displayed on Greene Street.

As he has since the party moved to the Sandbar location, Devin Wozencraft of Wozencraft Insurance Agency will be sponsoring the food for the evening. An array of cool giveaway items is in the works. And as they have since the party moved to the Sandbar, Greg Harris of Greg Harris Realty and his better half, Yvonne Aleman, are working closely with the venue as well as Samuel’s House.

New this year? A 60-40 raffle, with 60 percent of the proceeds going to Samuel’s House.

There’s more coming, for sure. We’ll keep you posted. Stay tuned—and mark your calendars.
