Speed On The Water Key West Bash—Game On
Between speedonthewater.com co-publisher Jason Johnson being buried in organizing the 200-plus-page, 10th annual Speed On The Water Year In Review print magazine and my own ludicrous event-coverage travel season that began in January and won’t wrap up until early December, the 11th annual Speed On The Water Key West Bash has been slow to take shape. But after meeting with our fellow party planners Greg Harris and Yvonne Aleman via phone conference late last week, the Thursday, November 7, happening at the Pickles Pub’s Sandbar on Greene Street is now coming right along.

Race World Offshore head Larry Bleil secured the closure of Greene Street for the 7 p.m.-10 p.m. celebration long ago—the event is actually included in his annual contract with the city. Closing Greene Street has created much-needed space for the thousands of party-goers who drop in every year to enjoy the bash and its live charity auction, which benefits the local Samuel’s House shelter and programs for women and intact families.
Last year, the event raised a record-setting $200,000 for the nonprofit organization. This year, we’re shooting to double that amount. Reaching that goal won’t be easy, but then, the best goals never are.
To that end, the auction alone won’t be enough to get us there, though we already have some fine items on the block including a customized—Louis Vuitton-style—Glock pistol from Kuttawa Cannonball Run co-organizer Jeff Hoefling of Lively Machine Co., as well as two VIP hospitality passes to every offshore race produced by the Powerboat P1 group in 2025. And much more is on the way.
So we will be looking for a few, OK, more than few, Foundational Sponsors. But more information on that will be coming your way next week.

Thanks to Waves and Wheels principal Justin Wagner, we’ve also secured a spectacular Doug Wright Powerboats 39 Carbon Waves and Wheels Edition catamaran as one of the display boats for Greene Street. And as he has since the party moved to the Greene Street location, Devin Wozencraft of Wozencraft Insurance and Finance is sponsoring the buffet and other munchies at the host venue.
More information is coming soon. Rest assured, we have not forgotten you. We’ve just been a little busy.
But trust us. We’re on it.
