Sneak Peek: Miles Handling New MTI V-50 Graphics Repeat Clients

When they take delivery of their MTI new V-50 high-performance center console, Matt and Lori Schulz of Grand Rapids, Mich., will be proud owners of their first boat from the Wentzville, Mo., builder. But as they did with their previous center consoles dressed by Stephen Miles of Stephen Miles Design, the couple is sticking with the Owensboro, Ky., custom paint shop for their newest ride.

Not only is the 50-footer their first MT, it will be the first V-50 Miles has tackled. His familiarity with his clients, however, puts him at ease.

Though the Schulz’s MTI V-50 won’t be on the water until 2023, the design for its graphics are close to complete. Rendering courtesy/copyright Stephen Miles Design.

“Hands down, they are some of the nicest people I’ve met since I’ve been in this business,” said Miles. “Things just flow so easily with Matthew and Lorie. The design process is always a pleasure and we seem to get to the finish line very smoothly and efficiently.”

Despite that the finish line is more than a year away—the boat won’t be completed until July 2023—Miles and his clients have already come up with what could be the final design of the boat’s graphics. In the meantime, the almost-boatless couple will enjoy the water on their Boston Whaler, which they keep at their second home in Naples, Fla.

Based on the early January demo day he enjoyed in a V-50 with MTI’s Randy and Taylor Scism in South Florida, Schulz said he’ll have no trouble waiting for one of his own.

“I was blown away by the way boat handled,” he said. “I was blown away by how the boat performed. And the day I spent, including going to lunch in the boat, with Randy and Taylor? They are in a class all of their own. I can’t believe how much time they spent with me. And they are working hard to get me the boat in time for the 2023 Boyne Thunder Poker Run.”

At present, Schulz plans to have MTI power the center console with five Mercury Racing 450R outboard engines. “It was incredible how smoothly the boat went from zero to 88 mph and back to zero again,” he said.

Without question, the boat’s color scheme leans heaving on darker hues. But Schultz isn’t worried about the 50-footer’s touchable exterior surfaces getting hot. The center-layout minimizes those surfaces and the entire interior will be done “in very light colors,” he said. Plus, the couple’s past two center consoles were finished in relatively dark colors.

“Just like the first boats we had Stephen paint, these are Lori’s colors and they absolutely stunning,” he said. “The Lambo blue, the gray and the black are just beautiful.”
