Given that the annual Florida Powerboat Club Miami Boat Show Poker Run attracts some of the sweetest go-fast boating hardware in the world—often straight from the show itself—standing out from the crowd is not easy. But that’s exactly what Zach Polsky’s solid-red Midnight Express Boats 43 Solstice center console did during the weekend-long event in late February.

Polsky, who lives in New Jersey and owns the King of Cars and Trucks dealership in Woodbury, took delivery of the 43-footer powered by five Mercury Racing 450R engines after the Miami show. He got it just in time for the Florida Powerboat Club happening in the Upper Keys, and his molten beauty turned heads all weekend.

“We had a great time in the new boat during the Miami Boat Show Poker Run,” Polsky said. “The Florida Powerboat Club sure knows how to organize an event. We brought the family down and stayed for 10 days. We did the first half of the trip in Miami and the second half of the trip in Key Largo. The boat was everything I expected and then some. Those 450R engines are something else.

“And to me, you can’t beat the look of the Solstice,” he added. “I think our boat looked good all red.”

Beat the look, no, but improve on its color scheme? Yes. That’s why the 43-footer, which was originally painted at Midnight Express, is at Stephen Miles Design in Owensboro, Ky., as planned. The boat currently is being prepped for Miles and company to add a few accents and highlights.

“It’s going to look even better once Stephen Miles Design is done with it,” Polsky said.

Miles said he expects the job to take a few weeks.

“It’s a slightly different process since Midnight handled the red paint at the factory,” he said. “It’s not particularly difficult, but most of the time when we finish boat graphics, the boats are not already painted from the rubrail down, like this one. They’re just finished in gelcoat and we take it from there.”

Once the paintwork is complete and the boat is back with its proud owner, he’ll campaign it in the Midnight Express owners-group run to the Bahamas this spring.

“Then we are going to take it up north for the summer,” Polsky added.

The Miles-finished Midnight 43 Solstice will eventually have company in its stable. Polsky has already ordered another one.
