Sixth Annual Texoma Throw Down On Pace For Record-Breaking Turnout.
Two days before the Texoma Powerboat Association-produced Texoma Throw Down last year, the event had 65 boats registered. The Oklahoma-based event finished with 118 boats in the mix. With a full week to go before the actual poker run on Lake Texoma—the 140-square-mile reservoir on the border of Texas and Oklahoma—the sixth annual happening, set for August 10-12, already has 50 boats registered, and event organizer/founder Casey Moore is confident that many more will sign up during next Thursday night’s welcome party at Freeman Marine Sales in Kingston, Okla.

“I say this every year, but the Texoma Throw Down keeps getting bigger and bigger,” said Moore, who is as high-energy and enthusiastic as go-fast powerboating organizers get. “We have 50 boats signed up right now and we only had 65 last year as of the Thursday night party. A lot of people are calling and registrations keep coming in.
“One thing we’re doing this year is getting more people involved,” he continued. “The event is not just for performance boats. Everyone is welcome—we’re even adding a Best Pontoon Boat award this year. I know that bugs some people, but we don’t discriminate. Whether you have a Skater 368, a 24-foot Baja or even a pontoon boat, we treat you the same.”
For Freeman Marine Sales, the Texoma Throw Down welcome party will be its second at the 6,000-square-foot facility. The three-year-old Donzi Marine dealer hosted the first Texoma Throw Down welcome celebration in 2022. The party, which runs from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., will feature live music, food and adult beverages.
“We expected 50 to 100 people last year,” said Casey Freeman. “We must have had at least 200.”
Also returning this year is Friday’s “Cheeseburger In Paradise” fun run and raft-up, where participants can make their way throughout the day to North Island for free burgers and hot dogs. Moore will once again have a DJ spinning tunes—with power courtesy of a generator—throughout the afternoon.
Friday’s Cheeseburger In Paradise lunch run is sure to be another hit with participants in town ahead of the Saturday poker run.
Saturday, of course, is the poker run followed by a celebration, card-play and awards at Barbay in Marina Del Rey, the event’s host venue in Kingston. But the event delivers more than a great time for high-performance powerboating fans. It raises money for Mission 22, a non-profit organization that provides treatment programs to veterans with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
“Honestly, for me this is about supporting the charity,” said Moore, who is a veteran. “And I love meeting new people. I love hosting. I love organizing to bring people together so they can enjoy a good time.
“I want everyone to leave with a smile on their faces,” he added. “That’s not an easy thing to do, but that’s my goal.”
