Second-Year Title Sponsor Ilmor To Debut 650-HP Engine At Eliminator Boats Regatta – Speed on the Water
For the second year in a row, Ilmor Marine, the Plymouth, Mich.-based marine propulsion company, signed on as the title sponsor of the Eliminator Boats Regatta, the 53rd annual owners appreciation event hosted by the Mira Loma, Calif., custom boat builder. The main event of this year’s gathering, which takes place September 22-23 at Lake Havasu on the Arizona-California border, features a fun-filled run up the Colorado River to Moabi Regional Park on Saturday. On Friday evening, there is a registration party featuring a raffle and live auction—with all proceeds going to the Hawai’i Community Foundation—plus a musical performance from the band Matt Farris Country.

Adding to the excitement this year, Ilmor is planning to debut its new 650-hp supercharged engine during the regatta. (More to come on that in the near future.) Eliminator also is going to have two boats—a 255 Speedster and 28 Fun Deck—on the docks at Pirate Cove Resort in Needles, Calif., on Saturday powered by 570-hp Ilmor engines.
“In the spring, at Desert Storm and Super Cat Fest, we did a ‘soft release’ of our new supercharged engine,” said Chris Pollum, who manages marketing and communications for Ilmor Engineering, Inc., in reference to the Lake Havasu City, Ariz.-based events Ilmor attended in April. “The Eliminator Regatta will be of our first formal release of the engine, which is going to be Ilmor’s new supercharged 650. We’ll have one on display along with information related to engine specs, performance numbers and more. We have some builds coming up with Eliminator and other manufacturers, but those won’t hit the water until later this year and early next year.
“Ilmor is excited to be a part of the regatta again and happy to support Eliminator,” added Pollum, who will be headed to Tampa, Fla., after Lake Havasu with his Ilmor colleagues for the IBEX Show, October 3-5. “We appreciate being able to work with Jake (Fraleigh) and Mark and the whole team over there. We can’t wait to do even more builds with them and continue to do unique projects and events together.”
According to Eliminator’s Mark Baker, the company has close to 30 sponsors for this year’s event, which starts with the registration party at Detail Specialties & Ceramic Coating in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and concludes with the “Party at Pirates” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
With close to 90 boats preregistered, Eliminator is anticipating 100 or more boats and likely 350-plus guests.
“We’re expecting a fun weekend with many of our customers,” Baker said, making sure to include a special thanks to a couple of the regatta’s runner-up sponsors, Riverside Resort Laughlin and KICKER Marine Audio represented by Elite Audio Lake Havasu. “We will have our latest models on one half of the F dock and the other half will include several hand-selected nostalgic Daytona models.”
