Second Home-Grown Interceptor 36 GTC Cat Aces Test Session Ahead of Desert Storm Debut

The owner of Interceptor Custom Boats in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Andrew Price exudes confidence in his products. He trusts his young team, which handles everything from lamination to interior fabrication and installation in house, to meet the high standards he sets. He believes that, dollar for dollar, his custom high-performance offerings deliver the best value in their categories.

Price expected the second Interceptor 36 GTC catamaran, which will be displayed at the Desert Storm Poker Run Street Party later this month, to ace its first test session on Lake Havasu last week. And that’s exactly  what it did.

The “easy to drive” 36-footer handled and rode well, he said. It came on plane easily and pulled strongly throughout the operating range of its two 500-hp Mercury Racing outboard engines.

The catamaran’s spacious six-seat cockpit is nine feet wide.

“It’s pretty damn quick,” he said. “It was propped for acceleration and overall performance.”

With the outboards spinning 35”-pitch propellers on the rev-limiters, the full-tunnel, 10’6”-beam 36 footer reached 128 mph. Price has a set of 37”-pitch props coming to his shop, and with the taller wheels on the spindles he expects the cat to top out at 135 mph

The 36-footer’s helm station boasts a clean setup.

With the 500R outboard powered package and a custom-built, fully equipped Adrenaline trailer, the 36 GTC catamaran lists for $599,000. Price believes, based on the catamaran’s performance, build quality and features combined its sticker, it can compete with any catamaran in its class.

And not just in the West Coast segment. In the country.

“For $599,000, the buyer gets an absolutely beautiful, capped boat with custom gelcoat graphics, a full Alcantara interior and a big sound system—and it will outperform the majority of products on the market,” he said. “Our boats are 100-percent built in house by our team—from their vacuum-infusion lamination to rigging to CNC stitching for the upholstery. They are made-in-the-U.S. products with excellent fit and finish. We are a turnkey manufacturer.

“Doing everything in house gives us better quality control than we would have ‘piecing out’ construction, getting a hull and deck from here and having its rigging done there,” he continued. “Our cockpit is nine feet wide—it’s huge. And you’re not sitting on the sole. All our bucket seats are mounted on 8-1/2-inch billet brackets.”

The boat’s rear-facing aft lounges are separated by a molded walkway.

Price and company are working overtime to get another Interceptor Custom Boats 36 GTC—this one with a bounty of exposed carbon fiber—ready in time for the April 24-26 Desert Storm happening. As for the newest completed 36 GTC catamaran, it’s ready to for the spotlight.

And Price is ready to show it off next month. He’s not just proud of the finished product, he’s proud of the company itself.

“Along with superior quality and fit and finish at our price point, we deliver on time as promised—without fail,” he said. “That’s something lacking in the industry, but we have built our reputation on it.”
