Second Generation MTI 48—And More—On Display In Miami

For MTI company principals Randy and Cherell Scism, and their daughter, Taylor, the 2024 Miami International Boat Show isn’t just annual business as usual in South Florida. Late last month, Taylor was promoted to her position as client relations manager to vice-president of the Wentzville, Mo., high-performance catamaran and center console company, so this week’s Miami happening is her first in that role.

Not only did the Scisms unveil a new MTI-V 50 for their friends—and first-time clients—Tyler and Lindsey Miller of M CON offshore racing team fame yesterday when the show opened, they released a second generation version of the 48-foot catamaran that to some extent put MTI on the go-fast boating map.

Powered by twin Mercury Racing 1100 engines with three-year warranties standard, the eight-seat model is dubbed the MTI 482.

“The 482 is very exciting for MTI as it’s the first inboard cat we’ve done in a few years,” said Taylor Scism. “Inboard cats are where MTI came from.

The interior of the MTI 482 catamaran boasts suspension seating.

“So far it’s gotten great response,” she continued. “We had it on the water last week and it performance phenomenally. It met all of our expectations.”

Scism said the cockpit of the 482 is the feature that, at least for her, stands out the most in the reimagined, all-carbon-fiber 48-footer.

A couple details.

“The cockpit was deeper in the original 48,” she explained. “In this one, you’re a little more raised up so the visibility is great, but you still have great wind protection. And we were able to install adjustable suspension seat, which really cool.

After a racing a few years in the 450R Factory Stock class, I have become a big fan of those,” she added, then laughed.

For Taylor Scism, the Miami show is her major event as the vice-president of MTI.
