BAM Pro / Am Circuit Debuts; NorCal Local Takes Lead With 16.49

REDDING, Calif. – Mild conditions at Lake Shasta greeted the 100 pro and co-anglers competing in the debut of the non-shared-weight, Pro/Am draw event launching the BAM Tournament Trail in its inaugural season. Area local, Scott Stanfield of Anderson caught a five-bass limit weighting 16.46, anchored by a 4.69 big bass to lead Day One of the three-day BAM Tournament Trail Pro/Am presented by Bass Boat Technologies.

Although he boated approximately 20 keepers for the day, Stanfield described the day as a grind. “The fishing was better in the morning and it kind of came in a fury,” he recalled. “I spent most of my day trying to chase a three-pounder for a cull.”

All of Stanfield’s fish fell to reaction baits. He feels if he can return to his spot unencumbered, he will be able to reproduce a quick limit and have the remainder of the day to hunt for his kicker.

Jordan Kunde Sits In 2nd At Shasta

Fellow Californian, Jordan Kunde from Palo Cedro, closed out the first day in 2nd place with 16.32. Kunde also claimed the Big Bass of the day with a 6.63. His big one was tempted first thing in the morning, and was the only bass boated in the six-pound class. His limit-filler was in the box by 10 a.m. Kunde reported a day full of quality bites sandwiched between 30-to-40-minute lulls. “Total, I had about 12 keepers,” he said.

Kunde hinted at a finesse presentation. “The way I am fishing, I am able to be around people and even behind people and still pick up fish,” he revealed “I feel like I am on a pattern that most guys aren’t focusing on.”

He is confident he will come to the scales with a near-teener bag. “And there is the potential for another nice one, of course with the goal of making Sunday,” added Kunde.

Tanner Spohn Rounds Out 3rd Place On Day One

Tanner Spohn, of Oakley, Calif., was the pro to round out the Day One top-trio with 15.93. His bag was bolstered by a 5.72. Although Spohn felt the day was tough, he was the only pro to weigh a bass in the five-pound class. “I got one lucky bite in the morning, he said. “It was probably my second or third fish of the day and then everything just came together early.”

Spohn credited all of his fish to reaction baits and feels tomorrow is up in the air. “I didn’t catch that many fish in practice, but the ones I did catch were good,” he shared. “I think the weather made it a tough bite for most people and I’m hoping for similar conditions tomorrow. It was a beautiful day on Shasta, and I had a wonderful co.”

BAM Shasta Day Two

The competition will resume Saturday, February 24, launching at safelight from Bridge Bay Marina. Once again, forecasted conditions appear mild with less than two-percent chance of rain. Cloud cover and northerly winds at 3 to 5 MPH are expected through mid-day. Sun with the day’s high climbing to 70 degrees, and wind direction changes are anticipated for the afternoon. Saturday’s weigh-in will kick off at 3 p.m. at Bridge Bay Marina.
