Scarlata Excited To Be Newest Wozencraft Insurance Team Member
Armed with an insurance license and a long list of marine community connections thanks to his drag boat-racing talents and decades of service to multiple racing organizations, Tony Scarlata recently joined the team at Wozencraft Insurance and Finance and is going to be working out of the Southern California-based company’s soon-to-be-opened office in Lake Havasu City, Ariz.

A resident of Lake Havasu City with his wife, Sandra, Scarlata told speedonthewater.com during his visit to the Big Cat Poker Run in Northern California recently that he was very excited to pursue becoming a licensed broker because he grew up around the insurance business thanks to his father’s profession. He also was appreciative of Wozencraft Insurance owner Devin Wozencraft for giving him the opportunity.
“A big reason I got my license and went to work with Devin and Tanah (Kinsey) and the rest of the team at Wozencraft is because I love being around boats in whatever capacity and the Wozencraft crew is like family,” said Scarlata, who was on hand with Wozencraft and the Speedboat Magazine team he often tests boat with during last week’s Lake of the Ozarks Shootout in Central Missouri. “My dad came from an insurance background so being able to insure boats should be a cool connection.
“I’m looking forward to understanding the business better and connecting with boaters from around the country,” he added. “Customer service and relationship building are a big part of this business. I’ve seen it with Devin and his team—the guy’s phone never stops ringing—as they developed such a camaraderie with their clients. There’s a lot of business to get done, which is why I’m here.”
A California native who started drag boat racing in 1990 and turned pro 13 years later, Scarlata has earned numerous accolades throughout his career, including series championships and world records. His next competition is set for early November at the Southern Drag Boat Association Nationals in Chandler, Ariz.
“The response from people I know in the boating business has been extremely positive—well except I’ve had several people call and ask if Wozencraft insures drag boats now; unfortunately that’s not the case,” Scarlata said with a laugh.
Wozencraft’s Tanah Kinsey, who was instrumental in bringing Scarlata aboard, said Scarlata has been a sponge since he started several weeks ago.
“Having Tony on the team feels natural for several reasons,” Kinsey said. “First of all his personality fits in well—he’s such a humble person considering how knowledgeable he is about boating and racing, not to mention how accomplished he is in the sport. Second, he has a very positive attitude and work ethic. He’s already showed his dedication with the time he’s spent learning and training. Last, but not least, Tony is a longtime client and he’s always treated us like family, which is kind of a theme we have going on here at Wozencraft.”
The Wozencraft Havasu office at 231 Swanson Ave., Suite 202 in Lake Havasu City is expected to open in late September. In the meantime, Scarlata can be reached via email at [email protected] or on his direct line at 928-331-0136.
