Saugatuck Brewing’s New Beer Supports Lake Sturgeon Conservation

Saugatuck Brewing’s new Lake Street Light easy drinking lager helps to support sturgeon conservation. A portion of every lager ordered goes to help fund conservation efforts for lake sturgeon in partnership with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
“Lake Street Light is more than just a beer — it’s a tribute to Michigan’s wild heart,” says Saugatuck Brewing Company. “These shores, our ‘Lake Street,’ are home to countless species, and we’re proud to help protect one of them — the lake sturgeon, a living fossil. Partnering with the Michigan DNR allows us to give back to the lakes we love while sharing the story of these remarkable creatures.”
Lake sturgeon have populated Lake Michigan for millions of years, but recently there has been a dramatic decline in populations. This new effort will help to address the issue, with the Lake Street Light x Lake Sturgeon Program set to expand to other Great Lakes states, in collaboration with other DNR agencies.
“This incredibly persistent fish has been here since before the invention of the automobile,” adds Patrick Ertel with the DNR’s Fisheries Division. “Some lake sturgeon in Michigan waters today are older than anyone reading this post. We’re excited to partner with Saugatuck Brewing Company to highlight their history and the need for habitat restoration.”
