Registration Is Open For Seventh Annual Texoma Throw Down At New Location

The Texoma Powerboat Association opened registration for its seventh annual Texoma Throw Down on Friday and made sure participants knew that the West Bay Casino and Resort, which is adjacent to the event’s new host location, Catfish Bay Marina at Pointe Vista in Kingston, Okla., is nearing capacity for the August 8-11 happening.

Although he admits there are challenges working out of a new venue, Casey Moore, the primary organizer of the event on Lake Texoma, has high hopes for the location, especially with the nearby accommodations. He said the casino rooms are going quick, but that there are some cool cabins available through the casino and that the Catfish Bay Campground has RV spots with full hook-ups.

“It’s going to be better this year, which is almost hard to believe, considering how amazing the event was last year,” said Moore, who, in 2018, put a lot of effort into bringing a fun go-fast-boat event back to the lake that borders Texas and Oklahoma. “We will be doing the Thursday night street party at Freeman Marine Sales and Brokerage again with an afterparty at Caney Creek beer gardens. We have entertainment lined up for Friday and Saturday evening at the marina and the casino, and we’ve seen more sponsorship interest than ever before. In fact, our friends at XPEL signed on as the premier sponsor this year. West Bay Casino and Resort is a major sponsor as well.

“It’s not easy to improve each year, but we’re going to try,” he continued. “We have a lot of momentum thanks to the new venue, the sponsors behind us and the boaters who come back each year and encourage their friends to join them.”

Moore said event participant Doug Brown, who is friends with Greg Connell and the team at Legend Marine Group (a sponsor of the Texoma Throw Down), works for XPEL and connected him with the company, which came on board as a supporting sponsor in 2023. Of course, Moore is ecstatic to be working more closely with the San Antonio, Texas-based supplier of protectants for paint, windows and more this year to increase brand awareness.

The Texoma Throw Down is once again going to include the Cheeseburger In Paradise lunch at Lake Texoma’s North Island on Friday.

A U.S. Air Force veteran turned construction superintendent, Moore also is enthusiastic about the future of the event following an announcement in January that a new Hard Rock Hotel and Residences is expected to open in 2026 at the Pointe Vista development.

“Soon after they announced the Hard Rock, a different developer announced that the Texas side of the lake was getting a Margaritaville,” Moore said in near disbelief of the influx in large-scale developments at the lake. “I can’t wait to see what this event looks like in a few years. It’s the reason we moved to Catfish Bay. This new hotel is going to be incredible. They’re talking close to 200 rooms with 25 suites and 150-plus residence rentals, plus an 11-acre Caribbean Beach water area with white sand beaches, islands and cabanas. Pointe Vista, which is a 2,700-acre, master-planned, resort property also has an enclosed waterpark, a family entertainment center and an amphitheater coming. This place is going to make an enormous impact on this community.”

Once registered for the Texoma Throw Down, Moore recommends calling the casino at 580-564-1220 and mentioning the event if you need a room or using the code TexThro24 for online booking. He’s also available to answer any questions you have or discuss sponsorship inquiries.
