Race World Offshore Releases Six-Event Schedule For 2025

During the Key West Offshore World Championships last month in its Florida hometown, Race World Offshore announced it was adding four new events to its 2025 schedule. Now those events are official, according Race World Offshore’s Larry Bleil and Rodrick Cox, and will be part of next year’s American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series.

Here’s a quick look at the 2025 event roster:

• July 11-13—Toronto, Ontario, Canada
• August 1-3—Michigan City, Ind.
• August 29-31—Chicago
• September 26-28—Clearwater, Fla.
• October 10-12—Fort Myers Beach, Fla.
• November 2-9—Key West, Fla. (APBA Offshore World Championships)

Two of the newly inked events—the Great Lakes Grand Prix and Roar Offshore Fort Myers Beach—will happen at existing race sites. Michigan City, Ind., is the long-time home of the Great Lakes Grand Prix. Canceled in 2020 because of the pandemic and out of commission since 2023 thanks to Hurricane Ian, Roar Offshore Fort Myers Beach will return to the still-recovering Southwest Florida city.

Both the Toronto Offshore Grand Prix—Race World Offshore’s first event north of the border—and the Chicago Offshore Grand Prix are brand-new venues for the outfit.

Gone from the schedule is the 7 Mile Offshore Grand Prix in Marathon, Fla. Bleil and Cox tried to bring offshore racing to the Middle Florida Keys for a couple of years, but the challenges proved insurmountable.

“It’s a pretty small community,” Cox explained. “Some of the hotels that helped were great, others were not. A handful of locals helped. A larger group of some influence did not. All finances were on Race World Offshore. It’s hard to do all out-of-pocket when every penny counts.

“Honestly, many teams said they liked the course but didn’t want to come,” he continued. “So unfortunately for Race World Offshore, the people have spoken.”

Various water conditions will be on tap for all classes at Race World Offshore events in 2025 thanks to a diverse collection of venues.

Also no longer on the event list is the Ocean City Grand Prix in Maryland, which the race-producer added in 2024. The issue was scheduling.

“They couldn’t find a date for us except April or November,” he said. “So we declined.”

Added Bleil, who personally donated $5,000 to Samuel’s House during the 11th annual Speed On The Water Key West Bash benefitting the local shelter and its programs for women, children and intact families, “We have a great schedule for next year. We have great momentum. I am looking forward to it.”
