Racing: Race Word Offshore Seeking Volunteers For Key West Worlds
–>
Though the American Power Boat Association and Union Internationale Motonautique are the sanctioning bodies for upcoming Offshore World Championships, which will crown champs this year in the catamaran classes, Race World Offshore is producing the weeklong, three-race event in Key West, Fla. But in addition to its own resources, the organization relies on volunteers for assistance and still needs more for the Key West event.

“At our Clearwater race, we had a supporting staff of 54 people,” explained Larry Bleil, the president of Race World Offshore. “When it comes to the world championships in Key West, have a supporting staff of 62 people. However, the Key West worlds are such a big event that producing them requires many volunteers on water and land.”
Volunteers are needed on race days, meaning November 9, 11 and 13. Two standard four-hour “shifts”—8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.—are offered, though Race World Offshore also offers “flexible” volunteer hours. Assistance is needed at the entrance, mid and VIP gates to the Outer Mole viewing and vendor area.
Would-be volunteers can sign up and select their shifts and stations by clicking here. According to the Race World Offshore website, “perks” include free admission to the general seating area on the Outer Mole for race days and an official Race World Offshore shirt.
“We have so many different areas of responsibility that it takes hundreds of people to put on a successful event,” said Bleil. “We truly appreciate the many, many people who come out to support the races and help make them happen.”
