In just a few hours, the final day of the 36th annual Lake of the Ozarks Shootout in Central Missouri will get rolling with the second round of the top-speed contest on the three-quarter-mile course. Some heady numbers from Saturday’s passes are already in the books (read yesterday’s comprehensive wrap-up story) but Sunday often produces more stand-out performances.

Thanks to beautiful weather and a variety of fun stops, the poker run saw plenty of smiling faces. Photos by Jeff Helmkamp copyright Helmkamp Photos

But while the Wednesday night Shootout On The Strip street party, the Thursday night welcome bash at Performance Boat Center and this weekend’s top-speed competition tend to overshadow Friday’s Lake of the Ozarks Shootout Poker Run, this year’s Poly Lift Boat Lifts-sponsored run may well have been the best one to date. The event attracted a healthy mix of approximately 100 center consoles, catamarans and V-bottom sportboats from Cigarette Racing Team, Baja Marine, Donzi Marine, Fountain Powerboats, Midnight Express, MTI, Performance Powerboats, Renegade Powerboats, Skater Powerboats, Sunsation Powerboats, Velocity Boats and other builders.

Speedonthewater.com contributing photographer Jeff Helmkamp captured the run, which started at The Cave Bar and Grill. With uncommonly mild temperatures in the low-80s, the fleet traveled to up to nine stops including Captain Ron’s Bar & Grill (Shootout headquarters), Neon Taco and The Boardwalk at Waves and Wheels before finishing up with a dinner celebration at Lazy Gators.

The daylong run attracted a broad cross section of brands.

Dinner led into the Shootout’s Live Auction and Casino Night, which was held for the first time at the popular waterfront hotspot. Though the final total isn’t in, the auction reportedly raised more than $350,000, which will be distributed to various local charities. Live music and fireworks followed.

But the real fireworks were, as always, launched by the auction’s generous bidders.

Poly Lift Boat Lifts once again backed the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout Poker Run.
