Personal Photo/Video Shoots Returning To Desert Storm And Super Cat Fest West

A frequent contributor to speedonthewater.com, Speedboat magazine and even Mercury Racing for marketing and media images, photographer Tom Leigh of Tommy Gun Images in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., has built his reputation on capturing outstanding shots of high-performance catamarans, center consoles and V-bottom sportboats. Though the affable, easygoing shooter is best known for his photos of go-fast boats boiling the Colorado River, he has worked at events—from the MTI Owners Fun Run in the Florida Keys to the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout in Central Missouri—all over country.

Performance boat enthusiasts coming to the Desert Storm Poker Run and Super Cat Fest West will be able to book Tom Leigh for private aerial photo shoots. Photo by Tom Leigh copyright Tommy Gun Images.

But for the rest of the month, Leigh will be staying close to his home-water for the upcoming Desert Storm Poker Run and Super Cat Fest West events. For those two weeks in late April, Leigh and talented videographer Carter Bahde will offer personal photo shoots for high-performance powerboat owners in town for Lake Havasu happenings.

Leigh and Bahde offer the service year-round at the lake, at least when they’re not on assignment elsewhere, but April tends to be their busiest month thanks to Desert Storm and more recently Super Cat Fest West. This year they’ll be shooting from a Robinson 44 helicopter from Eternity Helicopters.

Though Lake Havasu is his home-water, Leigh has captured performance boats in action on waterways across the country.

“The excitement is having a helicopter chase you at low level across the lake, of course, but at the end you also end up with 40 to 50 edited photos and a video edited with music of your choice,” Leigh explained. “We offer a photo-only package or both photo and video for a little more.”

Each shoot takes 30 to 40 minutes and costs $1,500 to $2,000. The cost of the helicopter is included.

“We still have a couple of slots left for Desert Storm and Super Cat Fest West,” Leigh said.

Tom Leigh, who captured this image of MTI’s Taylor Scism at the Lake of the Ozarks in Central Missouri, is among the most versatile photographers in the high-performance powerboat world.
