Performance Boat Center Fall Run Already A Record-Setter

For the purpose of context, there were 30-something boats at the Performance Boat Center Fall Fun Run at the Lake of the Ozarks when I last enjoyed it five years ago. It was a very mellow affair, and the clear blue skies and temperatures in the high-60s to low-70s were unlike anything I’d ever experienced at the Central Missouri waterway. Compared to the weeklong Lake of the Ozarks Shootout where I’ve logged most of my time working at the lake during the years, the Fall Fun Run was a day at the beach.

A beautiful empty beach.

Even with 74 boats registered including the new MTI 482 catamaran (above), the Performance Boat Center is a quiet day at the beach compared to the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout. Photo from the 2024 Lake of the Ozarks Shootout by Pete Boden copyright Shoot 2 Thrill Pix.

Now, with Saturday’s main event two full days away, 74 boats are registered. That makes it the largest event produced by the Osage Beach, Mo., dealership this year.

Though Brett Manire, the co-owner of the Osage Beach, Mo.-headquartered dealership, is impressed, he is not surprised

“As fast as it grew from the start I knew we were on to a good thing,” he explained. “Our environment is open and welcoming.”

Manire certainly doesn’t have to convince Minnesota’s Adam Seraphine, who will run his MTI 390XR cat with friends on Saturday with friends. The Fall Fun Run isn’t just one of his favorite events at the lake, where he has a second home. He’s done it “five or six times” and it remains one of his favorite events of the year.

“I like the ‘no-schedule’ aspect of it—you come and go as you please,” he said. “And it’s the last big lake weekend before everyone heads down to Florida.”

As usual, his friend and fellow 390XR cat owner Burton Kirsten of Michigan plus a couple of buddies will join Seraphine in the event. So, too, will Taylor Scism and Shaun Peters of MTI, who will run the company’s gob-smacking 482 catamaran powered by Mercury Racing 1100 engines.

Powerboats of all kinds are welcome at the laidback Fall Fun Run.

As for me, I can’t make it this time around. I’m in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., for the annual DCB Performance Marine Owners Regatta until stupid-thirty Friday morning, when I’ll drive back to Phoenix, catch a flight to Dallas and then head to Lake Texoma for the first Skaterfest produced by RP Elite Motors and Marine.

But I can’t help wishing, just a little, that the Fall Fun Run was on Sunday this year.
