P1 Marine Foundation Donates To Local Sarasota Conservation Organization
The producer of five offshore powerboat racing events this season, including last weekend’s Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix in Southwest, Fla., Powerboat P1 established the P1 Marine Foundation with the purpose of “raising awareness of threats to our oceans and supporting young people interested in marine conservation.” To that end, the nonprofit outfit made a $2,500 donation to the Sarasota-based Mote Laboratory and Aquarium, an independent, nonprofit marine research organization.

The Foundation selected Mote for its community-engaged STEM education program, which provides hands-on marine science education for under-represented students in the sciences and underserved in the local community.
The presentation happened during the Sunday awards ceremony. Mote Laboratory manager of development operations Danielle Dwyer received the donation. Also on hand for the event was Sarasota Mayor Liz Alpert and City Commissioner Kyle Battie.

“The annual Grand Prix generates a significant amount of local economic impact, making it one of Sarasota’s iconic events,” said Lucy Nicandri, the longtime executive director for Suncoast Charities for Children and media manager for Powerboat P1. “It also receives both national and international television coverage to showcase the city and county.”
