Outerlimits To Celebrate Outboard Builds—And Kick Off 30th Anniversary—In Miami

Dan Kleitz, the longtime national sales manager for Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats in Bristol, R.I., which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, has seen a lot of changes since he started with the company 13-plus years ago. But if you told him way back then that the custom V-bottom and catamaran company would be bringing two relatively small outboard-engine-powered models—a brand-new SC 37 catamaran and an SV 29 V-bottom—to town for the Miami International Boat Show, he would have scoffed.

Fresh from testing in Rhode Island, the newest Outerlimits SC 37 catamaran will be at Grove Harbour next Wednesday through Friday.

But that’s exactly what’s happening next week, starting Wednesday.

“We are still blessed to have orders for big stern-drive V-bottoms and catamarans with Mercury Racing QC4v (quad cam four valve) power—we have a quite a few in various build stages right now—but they didn’t align with timing of the show,” Kleitz explained. “But we’re also super-excited to showcase our outboard models.

“It’s an all-outboard Outerlimits line-up this year in Miami,” he added, then laughed. “Who would have thought?”

The 37-foot catamaran is equipped with a pair of Mercury Racing 450R outboard engines and reportedly reached 130 mph in its first test session this week. Both the cat and the Mercury 300R outboard-powered 29-foot V-bottom will be at Grove Harbour in Coconut Grove next Wednesday through Friday and available for demo rides by appointment only from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A pair of Mercury Racing 300R outboards power the slinky Outerlimits SV 29 sportboat that will be available for demo rides next Wednesday through Friday.

Though the latest SC 37 is—like all of those before it—an open-cockpit boat, Kleitz said a canopied version is in the works. The company will begin deck tooling for the cat this spring and should have the first one complete in early 2024.

“We already have three on order,” he said. “It’s going to be a canopied pleasure boat, not a canopied raceboat converted for pleasure use. So it will have all the amenities and features you expect in an outboard-powered pleasure cat. We’re very excited about that model.

“In the meantime, we’re looking forward to showcasing the latest open-cockpit SC 37, as well as the SV 29, next week at Grove Harbour,” he added.

Would-be demo participants can contact Kleitz at 860-729-7304 for an appointment.
