Outerlimits SC 37 Cat Hits 132 MPH In First Test Session
Both a new Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats SC 37 catamaran and SV 39 V-bottom were finished just in time for the Miami International Boat Show in February. Both models from the Bristol, R.I., company attracted a slew of appreciative onlookers to the custom builder’s Miami Convention Center exhibit during the five-day event. And both “touched” the water before heading south.

But neither had been tested until they were returned to Bristol.
Owned by Canadian Bob Barnhart, the 29-foot V-bottom powered by twin Mercury Racing 300R outboard engines topped 97 mph in its first sea trial in early March. As for the 37-foot catamaran going to Wisconsin’s Vinnie Diorio, it hit the water today for its first test session and reached 132 mph.
“I swear saw a 133-mph blip,” said Dan Kleitz, who ran the cat this morning. “But the Garmin didn’t catch it and neither did the (Mercury Marine) VesselView. We’re still pretty happy, that’s for sure. It felt great. It was on rails the entire time.”
Kleitz and company equipped cat with Mercury Racing CNC propellers, but beyond that he wouldn’t divulge any setup deals.
Said Kleitz, “I swear I saw a 133-mph blip.”
“Conditions were good yesterday and we’re expecting the same tomorrow, so we’re heading back out there with it,” said Kleitz. “It’s finally warming up so we can do some testing. We can’t wait to hit it again in the morning.”
