Our Best Podcasts with Striped Bass Biologists

Since we launched the On The Water Podcast in 2022, we’ve had several opportunities to speak with the scientists studying our favorite species, the Striped Bass. These provide a great deeper look into the migration patterns, biology, and ability for these fish to survive being caught and released. Here’s our three best podcast on striped bass research.

1. Studying Striped Bass Survival with Micah Dean

Micah Dean, of the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries, has headed a citizen science project aimed at estimating the impact of catch and release on the striped bass fishery. In this podcast, he sheds light on how researchers arrived at the 9% number for striped bass catch-and-release mortality, as well as how anglers can help the bass they catch survive.

2. The Striped Bass Initiative at the Marine Biological Laboratory

The team at the Marine Biolgical Laboratory has the unique opportunity to study a school of wild, mirgating stripers that literally return to their lab every summer. In this episode, Scott Bennett and Dr. Brian Prendergast discuss the seasonal and daily movements of stripers, and what their tagging studies have revealed about striped bass migrations.
