Racing: OPA Englewood Waterfest Worlds Schedule—Full Day Of Action Ahead

–>

With the nine-boat Bracket 700-class fleet already on the course today and duking it out to settle national and world titles this weekend, the Offshore Powerboat Association Englewood Beach World Championships are off to a good start. The official registration number for the two-day event came in at 45 teams, according to the final roster. (Two boats are listed as scratches from today’s action.) While that is a substantial drop from the 69-boat total that competed at the Southwest Florida venue last year, it’s a solid turnout considering the hurdles the waterfront community faced following Hurricane Ian and that the world titles in the catamaran classes were settled a week ago in Key West.

Here’s a quick look at how the rest of today’s contests break down:

11 a.m.—Bracket 500 and Bracket 600. Each class has seven teams.
12:30 p.m.—Stock V and Bracket 300. Stock V has five teams Bracket 300 has three teams.
1:45 p.m.—Mod V with two teams competing and Bracket 400 with four teams competing
3 p.m.—Unlimited, Super Cat and V Extreme, each with one boat, 450R Factory Stock—three boats—and Super Stock, which has two boats.

Unless last-minute changes are required, Sunday’s schedule will be the same as today’s schedule.

Other than the Bracket 700 class, which is running on an abbreviated two-mile course, all teams will run the entire seven-turn, four-mile circuit today and Sunday. The Super Cat class will run 13 laps, while the 450R Factory Stock, Super Stock and V Extreme classes will run 11 laps. The Stock V, Bracket 100 and 200 classes will run 10 laps. The Bracket 300, 400 and 700 classes will run nine laps. The Bracket 500 class will run eight laps, while the Bracket 600 class will run seven laps.

Live coverage from both days of racing will be carried on the OPA Racing Facebook page. Contributing editor Eric Colby and chief photographer Pete Boden are covering the event for speedonthewater.com.
