Offshore Racer Diorio To Enjoy ‘Casual’ Running In Bago Big Bet
The owner and throttleman of the Super Cat-class Rollin Transport/SV Offshore Racing team, Wisconsin’s Vinnie Diorio has a rare free weekend next month. So he and his wife, Danielle, have registered for the inaugural Bago Big Bet event presented by Mercury Racing, June 20-23, in Oshkosh, Wis.

The couple has owned an outboard engine-powered SC 37 catamaran from Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats since 2022. The Mercury Racing 450R-equipped 37-footer replaced their breathtaking SV 43 V-bottom from the Bristol, R.I., company, which they campaigned in poker runs for several years before Diorio joined the Super Cat ranks in 2019 with his canopied 39-foot Outerlimits raceboat.
Offshore racing, rather than poker runs, became the family’s priority.
“Other than the Four Horsemen event last year, we haven’t done any poker runs for the past three years,” Diorio said. “It will be nice to do a casual recreational boating event and not have to ‘drive hard.’”
“Plus, my boat is already on a lift on the shore of the lake,” he added, then chuckled.
Despite that Diorio’s Super Cat season began with engine issues that knocked him out of the first two races including this weekend’s Thunder On Cocoa Beach event, Diorio is eager to get back in the competition saddle.
“Would I rather be offshore racing?” he said. “Of course. I love it. But there’s no race that weekend.”
