Ocean City Grand Prix To Award Double Points

Being produced by Race World Offshore for the first time, the Ocean City Grand Prix, June 7-9, in Maryland will be a double-points event in the 2024 American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series. Paul Rose, the owner of the seriousoffshore.com online community, reached out to speedonthwater.com yesterday with the news that came out of the APBA annual meeting this week in Orlando, Fla., Rich Luhrs, the chairman of the APBA Offshore Racing Commission, confirmed Rose’s report.

“It’s a North American Championship race, which is straight from the APBA rulebook,” Luhrs explained. “The ability to do that has always been in the rulebook for certain defined title races. It is still part of the APBA Offshore National Series.

“You can’t do that for every race but I believe there are two titled events that fall into that category—this one and the ‘Nationals,’ which offshore never embraced because of the confusion with National High Point Championships,” he added.

Race World Offshore head Larry Bleil was delighted.

“We went through the rulebook—I applied for it and I got it,” he said. “It’s great. And what a place for race. It’s a really cool venue.”
