Nor-Tech At 35—Where’s Eileen Now?

Unveiled at the 2015 Miami International Boat Show, the new Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats 527 V-bottom was the property of Mark and Eileen Fischer of South Florida. The couple ran the twin Mercury Racing 1350 engine-powered 52-footer the following weekend in the Florida Powerboat Club Miami Boat Show Poker Run. Named Where’s Eileen Now?, it was the first 527 built, and the Fischers loved it.

And not just because hull No. 1 was theirs—they had a solid basis for comparison. The couple previously owned a 50-foot Nor-Tech equipped with triple 1,000-hp engines built in house by the Cape Coral, Fla.-headquartered company.
“The 527 is one of the most incredible boats I’ve driven,” Mark Fischer said not long after taking delivery. “Everything from the handling to the acceleration to the overall attitude of the boat is unbelievable. I’m very impressed so far. In our 5000V with triple 1,000s, we could get up to 110 mph. In the new 527, we’re running 120 mph with two motors, which is an amazing feat considering we haven’t spent much time running it. It also cruises at 100 mph around 5,000 rpm.
“Our old boat was no slouch, but this one is insane,” he added.
Trond Schou, the co-founder of Nor-Tech, was pleased the final product.
“We’re very happy with how the first 527 turned out,” Schou said. “Because we’re able to install the engines side by side, we freed up at least three feet of space to work with in the cockpit. Now this boat is more conducive for a group setting. It makes entertaining easier, and with the bolsters set up the way they are, you can have a conversation with your passengers while driving.”
