Nor-Tech At 35—Beautiful Bruiser
With 500-plus of its best-selling 390 Sport center consoles and more on the water, it’s easy to forget that model. No. 1 for Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats was a 50-foot V-bottom. The Cape Coral, Fla.., company dished up a spectacular reminder six years ago with the delivery of a new sculpted 477 Super Vee to Ron Meyering of Holland, Mich. And during the 2019 West Michigan Offshore Rock The Coast event, speedonthewater.com ‘s own Jason Johnson was Meyering’s guest in the twin 1550/1350 Mercury Racing-engine-powered 47-footer.

In no mood to play nice, Lake Michigan delivered one of Johnson’s most unforgettable, high-flying powerboat experiences when he joined Meyering for the 2019 Rock The Coast Poker Run. Speedonthewater chief photographer Pete Boden was there, of course, to capture his colleague in flight with Meyering and his son on board that day.
Meyering ordered the boat though Randy Kent, then still with Midwest Boating Center in Osage Beach, Mo., and the construction took more than a year to complete. Visual Imagination of Peculiar, Mo., dressed the V-bottom in fiery graphics worthy of the build itself.
“Before starting this project, Ron knew that he could go to any manufacturer but chose Nor-Tech due to the personal experience and the overall true craftsmanship that would encompass the build,” said Geoff Tomlinson, Nor-Tech’s dealer manager, shortly after the company delivered the brawny V-bottom. “For Nor-Tech, the 477 Super Vee is a popular model that has proven its pedigree among other high-performance V-bottoms.
“Nor-Tech owner Trond Schou was eager to build this boat for a repeat customer and also to have the opportunity to build something unique alongside the current production line of center consoles,” he added.
