Ninth Annual MTI Spring Owners Run Poised For Record-Setting Turnout

The docks at Hawks Cay Resort on Duck Key will be full with 60 boats March 13-17. That’s not amazing in and of itself as winter is a fine time to be on or off the water in the Middle Florida Keys. Plus, Hawks Cay is a beautiful property. So the docks at the posh resort have accommodated substantially larger fleets.

Yet when those 60 high-performance MTI center consoles and catamarans take over the Hawks Cay docks next month, it likely will be the largest single-brand go-fast boat gathering the venue has ever hosted.
The occasion is the ninth annual MTI Spring Owners Run to the Florida, and the fleet is the largest to date for an event produced by the Wentzville, Mo., company. The fleet will depart from Haulover Marine Center in North Miami and stop at Gilbert’s Tiki Bar and Resort in Key Largo for lunch before heading to its final destination.
“We’re sold out,” said Taylor Scism, the vice-president of MTI. “It’s not just our biggest event of the year. It’s our biggest event in years past.”
Capped at 45 boats, last year’s MTI spring trek to the Keys sold out quickly. Scism and company had originally planned on hosting a similar-size fleet this year, but demand required the MTI team to open more slots.
Said Scism, “We are adapting this year.”
